When I first made the decision to get off of my lazy butt and join a gym I was at the point where I could not care less about what I looked like. I mean I was just going to the building to sweat around other people who are sweating, so who cared if I matched or if my pants had a strange stain on them? I did not care one bit about how my clothes fit or anything. After about six months my body transformed like I could not believe. I was so excited with how I looked under my clothes, but it was then I realized how awful I looked with my so-called “gym clothes” on.

Here’s the deal, what you wear is important no matter the occasion. I should have been the first to realize this, but I was so caught up in trying to change who I was that I did not see it. Gym clothes do not have to be old nasty tee shirts and grungy looking sweats or yoga pants. No, gym clothes should look clean and nice on you. I knew that I had to go out and get some actual gym clothes, and it was the best decision I have ever made for me and my body.

When I got new running shorts, sweat wicking tops, and new socks and shoes, I got more than new clothes. I had a new attitude, more motivation, and I felt more comfortable than ever before at the gym.

New gym clothes mad me feel empowered. I loved how great I looked in my new gear and that translated outside of the gym as well. Yeah, I work out, and it shows.

On top of feeling better about myself, I realized that these new gym clothes were a great motivator to keep me going and moving. I wanted to get into the gym and sweat. There was nothing more exciting for me than to throw on the new gear and hit the gym.

So with a new attitude and new motivation I was working out harder than ever before. But there was one more thing my workout fashion provided me with, pure comfort. I had never had clothing designed to keep me cool and comfortable while I was sweating like a mad man. Wow, does it make a difference though.

To you all I say, care about how you look, even when working out. You might find that you were missing out all along.

I love when the new year rolls in. It is so much to celebrate one year coming to an end and another starting out. Each year I do make it a point to try and come up with some resolutions that will help make my life easier or better. This year most of my resolutions have to do with fashion. I love fashion, but I am lazy. That means that I tend to look like a bum a lot of the time especially during the week when I am running late for work and just throw stuff on. So, here are my New Year’s fashion resolutions.

I will not wear clothes that were balled up on the floor. I am so guilty of this one. I get in a rush and I resort to grabbing the first thing I can reach and using the sniff test. If it doesn’t smell, I will wear it wrinkles and all. I have got to stop that, and my next resolution should help.

I will organize my closets and clothing so that I have plenty of space and don’t end up throwing all my stuff on the floor. When you don’t utilize the space you have to maximize the amount of clothes you can hang or put away, you end up like me. That means you have mounds and heaps of clothes just strewn about. Organizing my space will ensure that everything has a place.

I will get rid of clothes that I never wear or that are ill-fitting. I have shirts and pants that are probably three sizes too big. I rarely wear these things because my boyfriend calls me a hobo when I do. Since that’s the case, it’s time they go on to someone who can wear them.

I will plan ahead. My last goal is one that will not only help me to look better even during busy weeks, but it will also help me to keep my sanity. Each night I plan on getting my outfit ready for the next day. This means making sure it is wrinkle free too.

Do you have any fashion resolutions for 2012? Let me know if you do!

The History of the Swimsuit

I know, I know it’s only December so why am I talking about swimsuits? Well, as I sit here munching on some plain and very boring carrot sticks, I am thinking about the cruise that I will be taking to the Cayman Islands in less than a month. I have been working on my bikini body for a few months now, and I figured I could kill two bird with one stone–look up bathing suits and find something to write about.

I found something really interesting that I just wanted to share with you all, and it shows the history of swimsuits. I mean if you think about it, there is no way that the bikini was the suit of choice in the early 1900s. So, how did it come about? And where did it get that name?

Did you even know that the only way women used to get into the water were in these things called bathing gowns that were dresses with weights on them? That’s a true story, but thank goodness the Roaring 20s came along and hemlines were raised and bathing suits were made smaller and seem much easier to wear. Find out more about swimsuits below!

This air is getting cooler outside. On top of that, I have been able to get the always delicious pumpkin spice latte from Starbucks and the leaves are changing colors. I love fall, plain and simple. I know that a lot of people get really sad to see summer come to an end, and that makes sense, but fall means cute sweaters, boots, and coats! How can anyone not get excited at all of the possibilities for fashion that fall brings along?

Maybe you are just unsure of what clothing pieces are going to be popular this fall, and that’s okay. Sometimes it can get hard to keep up with the changes, but I found an infographic that shows the clothing staples you must have for fall. There are outfits for casual wear, work, and nights.

I am absolutely in love with the leather boots and cape jacket for casual wear. The oxford heels for work are absolutely darling, and I cannot find anything in the evening looks that I don’t love. The wedges are gorgeous and the color block dress is fun and flirty. What are your favorite pieces from the infographic? Is there anything that you absolutely would not wear?

Sure we all take a lot of time to plan our outfits and the things that we will wear that will be seen by everyone we come into contact with, but how often do you take the time to think about what is under your clothes? That’s right I’m going there, I am talking about your undergarments. What you have on underneath your clothes can not only give you needed support and things like that, but it can also change your attitude and how you are feeling in your clothes.

Next time you are shopping for your undergarments, don’t just pick items based on how they look or if they are comfortable. Look for something that gives support, looks good, and it comfortable. Comfortable does not have to mean cotton and bulky. Check out the video below of the La Perla fashion show for Spring/Summer 2012 at the Milan Fashion Week this past week. Teaming up with John Paul Gaultier, La Perla creted some beautifully stunning pieces that any woman would look and feel exceptional in.

Fashion is just one of those things that you either get or you don’t. Some people just tend to be more fashionable and trendy and others either do not care to be or just cannot seem to find their inner fashion muse. That is okay though because fashion can be learned. There is no rule saying that someone who was at one time very unfashionable cannot learn how to be stylish. There are some tips and tricks to becoming fashionable and staying that way for the rest of your life. So, if you are ready to put your fashion foot forward just follow these tips:

Go for classic pieces. When choosing your basic pieces (pants and tops) then opt for classic shapes and colors that you can wear for many years to come. For example, when you are choosing denim the fad might be acid wash skinny jeans but go for a boot cut in a darker color and you’ll find that these are just as stylish. They will also be just as stylish next year and the year after. After you have enough classic pieces in your wardrobe, then you can start to mix in a trendy top or bottom here or there. Just don’t overdo it and spend your hard earned money on things that are all fads.

Accessorize accordingly. When you are in need of some color and fun in your wardrobe, use your accessories to add it in. Your accessories can completely change the look and feel of an outfit. Think about it, if you are wearing a pair of cute flats for the day, you can change it all up by wearing some pumps that night.

Tailor. Tailor. Tailor. One important thing that many people do not consider when choosing clothing is the fit. A great fit is a part of fashion too. If something does not fit exactly how it should, have it tailored. A simple stitch here and hem there can make something look like it was made just for you.\
